Common first-timer questions
Do I need my own equipment?
No. For your free first lesson and at the beginner level, NJFA provides all the gear. Every piece is sanitized and never shared, and rental gear is available for $35/month once you continue.
How old do you have to be?
Our youngest Musketeers start at ages 7–8, and our programs serve children, teens, and adults. Whatever your age, there's a place for you on the strip.
What does it cost to start?
Your first 20-minute lesson is free. After that, most beginners continue with a five-lesson introductory package. See our rates & fees for current pricing.
Do I have to compete?
No — many of our members fence purely for fun and fitness. Competition is encouraged but always optional, so you can pursue fencing at whatever level feels right.
